Pocono Family YMCA Swim Team Wins against Schuykill YMCA

The Piranhas won 5 of the 5 age groups and the girls team won 4 of the 5 age groups to start off their winter season last Sunday at East Stroudsburg University.  The both the boys and girls team have been league champions in the Penn Del League for the past 4 years.

Pocono Family YMCA Swimmers earn College Scholarships

Janay Parrish of Pocono Mountain East started swimming with the Pocono Family YMCA at the age of 11.  During her time swimming she qualified for YMCA Districts, YMCA States, Junior Olympics, Eastern Zones and YMCA Nationals.  She placed 3rd in the 100 Breast in YMCA States and set a team record in the 400 Medley relay. In high school swimming she was team captain, qualified for Districts and set several team records.  She was a member of several school clubs and competed in Track and Field.  In addition she was a member of the National Honor Society and earned a scholarship to Carnegie Mellon.

Lena Yang of East Stroudsburg started swimming with the Pocono Family YMCA at the age of 8 swimming her first meet in July of 2003.  In 11 years of swimming she has swam in YMCA Districts, YMCA States, Junior Olympics, Eastern Zones and YMCA Nationals.  During her swimming career with the Piranhas she has accumulated 19 team records, 1 YMCA District title in the 50 Free, 1 PIAA District title in the 50 Free and 1 YMCA State title in the 50 Free.  She was the first area swimmer to make the top 24 in YMCA Nationals placing 18th. She has the areas fastest 50 free and 100 free times and has been the MVP of her high school team 4 years in a row, team captain and set 6 team records.  One would wander what else she could fit in her schedule but she was also a member of several school clubs, competed in Track and Field and Cross Country.  In addition she was a member of the National Honor Society and earned a full scholarship to MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology)
